80 Acres◆Miniature Hereford◆Irish Dexter
Small-herd cattle raised on rotational pasture outside Marble Falls — papered, vet-certified, and handled like family from the day they hit the ground.
Maria came to cattle the long way — twenty years in veterinary practice before she finally bought the 80 acres she'd been eyeing since residency.
Painted Hills runs a small, deliberate herd of Miniature Herefords and Irish Dexters on rotational pasture in the limestone-and-oak country west of Austin. Every animal on the property has been seen by a vet more times than most town dogs — and it shows in their temperament, their condition, and the records we hand to every buyer at pickup.
We don't run a bull mill. We calve fifteen to twenty head a year, selectively, because the point of the place is the animals themselves — not a quota. When a heifer comes up for sale, she's ready. When a bull comes up for sale, he's been evaluated, DNA-panel'd, and handled since weaning. The buyers we want are the ones who want that too.
We run 42 head on 80 acres. Every animal has a name, a file, and a vet who has seen her grow up. The herd size stays small on purpose — we'd rather sell fewer and sell better.
02
Rotational pasture, year-round
Ten paddocks, rotated every 4–7 days depending on forage and season. Cattle get fresh grass; pasture gets time to recover. No confinement feeding except during freeze weather or veterinary hold.
03
Every animal papered
Registered with the respective breed association, DNA-verified against sire and dam, and travels with a complete health record. Miniature Hereford papers through AMHA; Irish Dexter papers through ADCA.
04
Handled young, calm old
Every calf is handled from week one — halter-broke by weaning, loads in a trailer without drama by six months. The animals you buy are the animals you can actually work with.
◆ What Buyers Say
“Maria hands you a folder at pickup thicker than most vet records I've ever seen. This is how cattle should be sold.”
